Fans of Cara Black’s bestselling Parisian mystery series should head to Titcomb’s Bookshop this afternoon, from 2-3 pm, as the acclaimed author will be in Sandwich introducing her latest book “Murder in the Quai” to Cape audiences.
This is now the sixteenth book that Black has penned featuring private investigator Aimee Leduc and her team of misfits which includes her beloved bichon frise Miles Davis. This one is a prequel to the bestselling series, taking place in the fall of 1989 while Leduc is in her first-year of college at Paris’ preeminent medical school and living in a 17th-century apartment overlooking the Seine with her father, who runs the family detective agency.
Leduc is asked by her father to look after the agency while he is away on a trip. Soon she is exposed to the fantastic world of a private investigator, becoming embroiled in a murder case all while trying to uncover the truth about a Nazi gold transport that disappeared in a French country village during World War II. The book’s plot was inspired by a true story.
Since 1999, Black’s mystery series, starting with “Murder in the Marais”, has amassed a legion of fans, selling more than a half million copies in the United States. Black has received numerous accolades for her work including multiple nominations for the prestigious Anthony and Macavity Awards as well as a Washington Post World Book of the Year citation.
