Longtime Cape Cod retailers Nina and Charlie Miller know that sunglasses are not only cool, they are vital to protecting one’s health. That’s the message the pair is touting tomorrow when they will join the rest of the country in celebrating National Sunglasses
“We know from scientific research that people can experience short-term and long-term health impacts from not wearing sunglasses,” said Mr. Miller. Exposure to the sun can lead to melanoma, cataracts and macular degeneration.
To promote healthy eyes, the Millers are offering a one-day discount on sunglasses tomorrow in all their Cape locations. This includes American Sunglass and Board Stiff, in Falmouth; Sol Optics in Mashpee; Sol Optics in Chatham; Sol Optics in Provincetown; Coconuts in Provincetown; and Board Stiff in Provincetown. Customers will be able to purchase one pair at regular price and the second at half off.
The Millers have been longtime retailers on Cape Cod, first opening Coconuts in 1987 and adding two stores on this side of the Canal last year. Over the past three decades they have witnessed the transformation of sunglasses from not only an important fashion piece, but a necessary protection from the sun’s harmful ray
As technology has improved with eyewear so have designs, something Ms. Miller spoke about as she reflected on her career in the industry. “Sunglasses are both a fun and functional accessory,” she said. “What I have found most rewarding about selling sunglasses is it can change a person’s personality. Put a high-fashion pair on a shy woman and she suddenly feels like a movie star.”
